Johnny Rice - Cello, Strings Department Head

A native of Arizona, Johnny Rice is an accomplished performer and teacher on both cello and piano. Mr. Rice, performing in a duo with his brother, Chris, has performed throughout the United States, including in New York City (Carnegie Hall), Chicago, Los Angeles, and numerous cities and towns across the United States. Internationally, he has performed in Warsaw, as a featured artist at the 2014 World Music Day celebration, as well as in Vienna, Salzburg, Budapest, and Munich. Elijah Baik, Cello Faculty

Elijah Baik (DMA candidate at ASU) began playing cello at age 12 and made his solo debut with orchestra at the age of fifteen. He attended Cleveland Institute of Music and New England Conservatory before coming to ASU to study with Thomas Landschoot. A very active chamber and orchestral musician, Baik has had the chance to collaborate and work with members of the Borromeo, Cavani, and the Cleveland Quartet as part of the advanced string quartet programs at both CIM and NEC, while working closely with reknown artists such as Jamie Laredo and Sharon Robinson. A serious double threat, Meggie Evans brings a love for teaching and an incredible breadth of musical experience to H&S. She earned her Masters of Music Performance in Violin AND Clarinet in 2021 at the University of Denver, as well as a Suzuki Violin Pedagogy Certificate. A prizewinner in numerous competitions, Evans shows passion and fortitude in her performances. An avid performer, Luke Stikeleather is most at home on the concert stage. He has worked as a contracted player with multiple professional orchestras throughout North Carolina including the Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and Western Piedmont Symphonies. Dr. Carolyn Broe - Viola

Dr. Carolyn Waters Broe, American violist, conductor and composer has been the featured soloist with orchestras in California and Arizona. She earned her Doctorate in Music from Arizona State University in 2001. Dr. Broe conducts the Four Seasons Orchestra of Scottsdale, which was nominated in two Grammy categories for 2000.  She conducted Four Seasons Orchestra on tour in Vienna, Austria for the Haydn Festival in 2009.  Broe was the founding conductor of the Paradise Valley Community College Orchestra for ten years as well as their Violin and Viola Instructor.
