Carlie Beckert

Carlie Beckert is a passionate performer and teacher. She finds joy not only in performing but helping others achieve their goals and discover their true potential as a singer. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Vocal Performance from Utah Valley University and a Master’s in Performance Pedagogy in Voice from Arizona State University. She is currently pursuing her DMA at ASU in Vocal Performance. During her academic journey, Carlie concentrated on vocal pedagogy and vocal health. She also studied adolescent voice and has enjoyed teaching students as young as 8 years old. Throughout her Master's and ongoing DMA studies, she has served as a voice teaching assistant, guiding undergraduate music students through courses and private lessons. Beyond her focus on adolescent voice instruction, Carlie has accumulated extensive experience teaching individuals ranging from 8 to 60 years old during her more than 7 years of private teaching. Her teaching career has underscored for her the critical role of a nurturing and supportive environment for personal growth, motivating her to establish a safe and encouraging space for all singers.

Carlie's passion for teaching blossomed from her performance experiences growing up and her academic studies. Her journey began at age 15 in her hometown youth theater's production of Alice in Wonderland Jr. Subsequently, she starred in productions like Little Shop of Horrors and Seussical the Musical, and performed as a soloist with the Rococo Performing Arts group. In her undergrad, she began studying opera and played her first opera role that same year in Mozart's Die Zauberflote as Third Lady (a role she has revisited 2 times now). Her roles expanded to include Prince Orlovsky in Die Fledermaus, Flora in La Traviata, and Gertrude in Romeo et Juliette.

Before pursuing her Master's at ASU, Carlie secured her first professional contract with Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theater, covering roles such as Third Lady in The Magic Flute and the Housekeeper in Man of La Mancha. She also participated in the chorus for mainstage productions like Carmen and The Tender Land.

Most recently, you may have seen Carlie perform one of her many roles with ASU’s Music Dance Theater. Those roles include: The Marquis in Daughter of the Regiment, Mother Goose in The Rake's Progress, Jack's Mother in Into the Woods, Ruth in The Pirates of Penzance, and Marcellina in Le Nozze di Figaro. She was also featured on ASU News for her role in the Premier of Sanctuary and Storm at the 2024 National Opera Association conference where she played Hildegard von Bingen.

Carlie loves how unifying music can be and hopes to continue performing and helping others better their own technique so they can share their talents too!
